Freshmen: Dariyan Wilson (Girl’s Flag Football)
“The leadership skills that I learned from Flag Football helped [with my] academics by improving [my] discipline, because if I mess around during practice I am told to do extra laps paying the consequence, just like if I forget to study or turn in homework I would deal with the consequences [for both instances].”
Sophomore: Alia Armenta (Girl’s Tennis)
“As I continue my sport I have learned to persevere through challenges in my academics. For example, when a game or practice gets challenging I have to push myself through it, hoping for the best. The same goes for school. When I am lost during a test or do not know how to do my homework, I challenge myself and push through.”
Junior: Alexander Yepis (Boy’s Football)
“When being involved with such a big team, I have learned that we all need to work together and through doing so, I have learned better communication skills. I can apply that to my academics by being able to work better with my classmates and talk to my teachers when I need help with something academic wise.”
Senior: Daniel Patrick McElwain (Boy’s Water Polo)
“I feel that my participation in Water Polo has made me become more assertive in the classroom. I think [one’s] voice has to be projected and heard a lot, especially when it comes to playing in a team sport. In school, I feel like I have become much more assertive when it comes to asking questions or making my points come across in a classroom setting [because of this].”
