In preparation for the upcoming football game against Eastlake High School (EHS), Bonita Vista High’s (BVH) Associated Student Body (ASB) released a new piece of merchandise in support of the game on Oct. 27. The concept of the yellow shirt, the “Drain the Lake” in blue text and the background whirlpool arose two weeks ago, where the ASB officers began to plan the release of this product for it to start selling it at the ASB store. The collaboration between ASB Advisor, attendance coordinator and Math teacher Christina Ada with her idea to create this product and ASB Vice president and senior Malyna Castillo’s design caused the launch of this product.
ASB decided to create this new product in order to raise spirit and unity for Friday’s football game. Football games are known for being full of spirit, with the Dog Pound club and the cheer team charging the crowd up to support their team.
“I think [the shirts are meant] to get the spirit going for the football game against Eastlake because that is pretty big at the school. We just wanted something everyone would wear. When you look at the crowd, you can see everyone wearing [the shirts],” Acosta said.
Hoping to see the crowd filled with these bright yellow shirts, the ASB is putting them on sale until they sell out. BVH students now have access to purchase this product that can be used for future games against EHS.
“It is a limited design so it is not something that we will continue to carry. So we only order [a certain] amount of shirts and then once they are gone, they are gone. It leaves room to create new shirts in future years,” Ada said.
As Ada mentions, given the limited availability, more students are projected to be wearing this shirt for the game. She further explains that EHS is BVH’s rival school, allowing students to get a bigger sense of need to buy this merchandise for Friday’s football game.
“Eastlake has always been our rival at games, so we want to promote school spirit, and in conjunction with our Dog Pound, [who] wanted a shirt as well, so we collaborated and are hoping to get the student section to be all yellow and gold for the game,” Ada said. “I am hoping that it brings the school together, shows some unity and creates an environment where we have exceptional spirit in this last game.”
With this item being on sale at the ASB store, this leaves the officers satisfied with their product. Attorney General and junior Leina Clark hopes that it will bring the school together and support their football team in their last game.
“I’m really excited about them, it’s a good design. I can’t wait to see them sell out,” Attorney General and junior Leina Clark said.
Seeing the shirts go on sale brings excitement to Clark because of its unique look and color. Rather than blue, one of the colors that represents BVH, the bright yellow shirt stands out for its neon look, which ties together with the theme of the football game.
“I do think that [the shirts] will impact the spirit because it is a neon theme on Friday [football game], so it is a great way to get merchandise out, but also get that out for Eastlake [game],” Clark said.
Representing school spirit in support of the teams competing is something that is greatly appreciated. These shirts cause extra value to the students because of their exclusive shelf time and can assist them with the spiritual support for the football senior night on Oct. 27.
“We did that last year at the beginning of the year, so there is a lot of older [baron gear] that people would not really want to wear now, and we have just been selling the same stuff for a while now, so we thought that new stuff would be cool,” Ada said.
