“I once had a student tell me that they did not have their homework because their rabbit ate it. Then they had their mom call and confirm the rabbit had in fact eaten their homework. It was not a bad excuse but it was an interesting one. I have actually had a personal experience where my rabbit once ate my homework too. In the beginning, I did not believe him at first, I was like ‘No way your rabbit ate your homework.'”
“The most interesting and funny excuse a student has given me for why they did not complete an assignment was that they were grounded and their parents did not allow them to do and turn in the assignment.”
“One time, during my first year of teaching, a student told me he got arrested and so he could not do his assignments. At this other school, he was in a gang, so I extended the assignment for the next day and he ended up still not doing it.”
“I have gotten the ‘Sister grabbed my paper and began drawing with crayons and ripped it apart’ excuse. It’s different now because students use their computer so they just can say they don’t have internet so those are most common.”
