The Barons baseball team took another win home. On Apr. 23, the Barons came out victorious after playing against San Ysidro High School in a home game and winning 3-0, extending BVHS’ win-loss record to 16-5. In one of the most dominant games that BVH has played over the past few weeks, their bats and gloves maintained the upper hand within key aspects in the game. Senior and pitcher, Juan Lozano, commented on how the team stayed consistent.
“Our lineup did their job, our fielding was smooth and our pitchers did well,” Lozano said. “All of these came together. We had a great game overall and we all as a team had a lot of fun on-and-off the field.”
Although the team won, there were aspects within the match that players claimed they could improve. Despite perfect pitching and excellent bat activity–which allowed players getting on base–sophomore, pitcher, shortstop and centerfielder Kensen Johnson noted that there needed to be more stability in execution with plays, along with how the team cannot be too overconfident.
“When we are winning–especially during this game–we need to not let the other team get the upper-hand,” Johnson said. “There were many points in the game where it happened and so it should not be happening in the future.”
After the game, the numerous players and parents walked off the field with pride knowing that they brought home another win for the Barons. With the season still continuing onward, Junior and utility player, Lucas Nguyen, joined in the celebration and stated how the team just has to stay consistent throughout the season.
“We just have to keep going,” Nguyen said. “If we keep going at this rate, especially after [playing] San Ysidro, and we keep staying consistent, we can do anything as a team. That is all that truly matters.”
The Barons will next play in a home game on Apr. 28 versus the Eastlake Titans at 3:30pm.
