The Lady Barons beat Sante Fe Christian 11-10 on Wednesday Apr. 15, barely pulling through the four quarters that they played throughout the day.
“I was pretty happy about the win because although we had beaten this team before, my team pulled through,” junior elbow on attack Eugenia Lee (5) said.
While there were many achievements throughout the match, there were many improvements that players have cited within the pitch. Players such as captain and defensive X, Marley Acayan, reasoned with how there were some ways the team could develop more within its skill and communication.
“Something the team as a whole could improve on is our strength on the stick. If you have a strong wrist and stronger grip, you can easily attack the ball without dropping it,” Acayan said.
With the Lady Barons now at their seventh win of the season, senior and defense Jaquelyn Gonzalez (21) reflected on one of the most memorable moments of the match.
“During our fourth quarter of the game, there were five minutes left and the other team had made a goal which made us [only] one point ahead of them,” Gonzalez said. “This made everyone nervous, but the defense and middles stepped up during those last few minutes, and they were able to prevent the other team from scoring goals.”
As the game came to a close, many players took off their gear and cheered for another victorious win. Lee concluded with how rewarding it was to be able to come home with a sense of pride.
“I am really proud of our team because we have improved a lot since our first game. It is honestly really amazing to see how much hard work everyone puts in,” Lee said. “Every single player has improved dramatically, and our team has really grown and reaped the benefits from it.”
