On Dec. 1, Bonita Vista High’s media program changed its name from BVTV (Bonita Vista Television) to BVX (Bonita Vista Experience) after releasing an announcement video on Instagram. The program introduced the new name to better represent the “Bonita Vista experience” and give students a clearer idea of how the program is growing and what it aims to showcase on campus.
“BVX fits our school’s mission and shows a more modern, student-focused platform,” BVX advisor Hugo Martinez said. “Today’s students do not connect with traditional television, so this change helps us stay current.”
The goal of the name change was to modernize the program and make it easier for students to relate to its content. Staff members explained that the old name, BVTV, no longer matched the type of videos students create today. The old name sounded like traditional television, but students now make modern, social-media-style videos. So, the program needed a name that better fits the type of content they watch and create.
“I was surprised at first, but I like the new name after seeing the updated website and the new types of videos,” senior and BVX member Sebastian Hunt said. “It feels more modern, and it shows how much the program is growing. BVX looks like something that truly represents our school now.”
Students who work with BVX said the new name makes the program feel fresher and more creative. They believe it helps the school community understand that BVX covers a wide range of stories, not just announcements or broadcasts.
“BVX helps bring our school community together by sharing stories from all around campus,” junior Isaac Morales said. “It gives students a voice and makes everyone feel more connected. The new name shows that the program is moving forward in a positive direction.”
The shift from BVTV to BVX shows the program’s push to improve, reach more students and better represent BVH. The media team hopes the updated name will encourage more students to get involved and help BVX continue to grow.
